Our Places &
Faces of 2008
During 2008, a total of 241 adults were served through the Adult Day Services program.
Adult Day Services provided educational-based services to adults with intellectual disabilities, ages 21 and above. Individualized training was offered in the areas of communication, socialization, personal care and hygiene, self-direction, money management, leisure time planning, and behavior management. Services were provided in Jefferson and Blount Counties.
The goal of this program is to assist each adult served with becoming as independent and self-sufficient as possible, thus enhancing the overall quality of their lives. Training is individualized and incorporated into community settings whenever possible.
Consumers served and their families were asked to participate in a Consumer Satisfaction Survey on the program. Results were analyzed and compiled to ensure that quality services were delivered and to make changes and adjustments if deemed necessary. Results on the 2008 Surveys for Adult Day Services averaged 5.88 on a scale of 1-7, with seven representing excellence. This score fell into the “good to very good” range on the scale.
Specific examples of feedback from families included the following comments:
“I like it most when our class goes to Captain D’s and the Galleria!”
“I like the fact that my son’s teacher keeps us informed and is very friendly and aware of his specific needs.”
“We are very pleased with Linda’s progress. She is always clean and well taken care of. The staff are always willing to explain things and the consumers in the classroom appear to enjoy their daily activities, field trips, and eating out.”
* 47% of adults served during 2008 completed goals and objectives set specifically for them.
* Throughout the year, 25 consumers made such progress in the program that they were promoted either to higher level classrooms or to vocationally-oriented settings!
* Training continued to be highly individualized, taking into account the desires and goals of each consumer served.
