Our Places &
Faces of 2008
During 2008, a total of 211 adults with intellectual disabilities were served through the Residential Services program.
Four unique components of this program were offered to adults with intellectual disabilities, based on their individual needs. They were:
* Supervised Community Living Homes (SCLH’s)
* Retirement Settings
* 10-bed Group Homes
* Semi-independent Living Residences
Training in all four of these home-like environments gave adults with intellectual disabilities the opportunities to become more independent and self-sufficient. An emphasis was placed on training residents in the areas of personal care and hygiene, household chores, social skills development, and leisure time planning. The goal is for each adult served to ultimately be able to live as independently as possible within the community.
Residents and their families were asked to participate in a Consumer Satisfaction Survey on the program. Results were analyzed and compiled to ensure that quality services were delivered and to make changes and adjustments if deemed necessary. Results on the 2008 Surveys for Residential Services averaged 5.56 on a scale of 1-7, with seven representing excellence. This score fell into the “good to very good” range on the scale.
Specific examples of feedback from residents and their families included the following comments:
“I am pleased with the overall care of my sister. Her home is always clean and it is well-decorated. She always has a smile on her face.”
“Jason has his own room and possessions and seems to be very comfortable there.”
“I love the fact that we can come and visit whenever we want. Pete’s hair is always cut and it is obvious that he is well taken care of in his home.”
“I don’t think I could have put my daughter in a better place. The staff are so sweet and caring toward each resident.”
* 10 residents made so much progress during the year that they were promoted to less-restrictive, more independent living situations.
* 44% of residents served during 2008 completed the goals and objectives set specifically for them.
* Training continued to be highly individualized for each resident served, taking into account each person’s desires and long-range goals.
